After snatching nothing less than seven Tony Awards, including the Best Musical, Best Actress and Best Original Score, the show “Sunset Boulevard,” featuring soundtracks by Andrew Lloyd Weber and directed by Fred Hanson, will be at Teatro Santander in March 2019.
The set-up is a co-production by agent and producer Stephanie Mayorkis (EGG Entretenimento) and IMM, which have had an audience of about 300,000 people, with the recent hits “My Fair Lady,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” and Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.”
Sunset Boulevard — Based on Billy Wilder’s movie, the show features songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Christopher Hampton and Don Black; and orchestration by David Cullen & Andrew Lloyd Webber. On Broadway and in London, Glenn Close starred in the set-up.
The plot unfolds in her mansion at the Sunset Boulevard, where the silent-film star Norma Desmond lives in a fantasy world. Young screenwriter Joe Gillis, trying to escape debt collectors, finds this reclusive world of Norma. Persuaded to work on a screenplay that she believes will put her back in the movie scene, he is seduced by her lifestyle.
The staging of “Sunset Boulevard” is promoted through a special agreement with The Really Useful Group, supported by the Ministry of Culture, IMM, EGG Entretenimeno and the Federal Government of Brazil.
